Barsoor, located in Dantewada district, was an important town during the Nagavanshi rule (10th–12th centuries CE). The site is renowned for its exquisitely carved stone temples dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, featuring detailed sculptures and architectural grandeur.

Barsoor's temples showcase the pinnacle of stone carving art in central India, with intricate depictions of deities, mythological scenes, and ornamental motifs that reflect the region's rich cultural heritage.

The sculptures at Barsoor reflect a high degree of artistic skill, depicting not only religious themes but also scenes of daily life, dancers, musicians, and animals, providing a window into the socio-cultural milieu of the era.
